ECQ, KSA, PTQ, TQ Writing and EditingCamille excels in writing narratives for all levels in government. Take advantage of her expertise to help you in your job search! She has been writing successful narrative statements for more than 20 years! A lot of people dread this process, but this is the perfect opportunity to show your value to the employer and demonstrate why they should hire you. She will help you embrace the task of writing narratives with the attitude of showcasing your value so you will stand out from your competition.
Don't worry--Camille will provide direction on how to answer them and what to include. The process can be time-consuming, so do not delay if you are up against a deadline. Please plan to spend at least 2-3 hours per narrative, depending on the GS or SES level. Once you have a good set of narratives, most of the time they can be modified for subsequent announcements.
What is a narrative? Narratives are known as KSAs, PTQs, TQs, and ECQs for government positions. KSA=Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. PTQ=Professional and Technical Qualifications. TQs=Technical Qualifications. ECQ=Executive Core Qualifications. These statements are like essay questions on a test. Think of them like a mini-interview--on paper--and the perfect opportunity to prove your value!
Camille created a successful process to develop narratives from specific experiences from your background that will demonstrate your abilities. They will be edited for correct grammar, punctuation, content flow, relevance, and logical organization. She will ensure specific examples demonstrate your experience effectively and answer the statements specific to the job announcement. She uses a powerful approach of combining the CCAR (Context, Challenge, Action, Result) method of writing and STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) of writing. These are two methods that hiring managers and federal personnel officers prefer. Both methods have proven to be very successful because they tell your story!
Your new narratives will:
- Demonstrate your value to the organization by using the best examples from your experiences that showcase your abilities with clear and concise answers.
- Create, design, and format your answers to match your federal resume.
- You will have strong content, high impact, and visually-appealing documents.
- Ensure the correct information is identified in the headings.
- Ensure the KSA, ECQ, TQ, and PTQ statements are correct for GS-levels and SES levels.
- We will edit and improve upon what you have to ensure the best possible demonstration of your expertise, skills, and abilities.
If you need help getting started, Camille has proven, successful methods of gathering the information from you via electronic interview that allows you to think about the best experiences that will prove your value to the organization.
TIPS ON WRITING EFFECTIVE KSA'S: Most of the time, each narrative should be one page in length. ECQ's should be two pages, but the announcement will address the length required. They need to specifically demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and abilities to do what the narrative statement requires. These narratives need to come from YOUR experiences, not just a list of duties. Duties and accomplishments are perfect for the resume. Narrative statements need to demonstrate, complement, and parallel the experience you list on your resume. You should not be afraid to detail this by giving examples that demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and abilities and by making it interesting to the reader. By making it interesting, you will stand out from your competition. You can be rated higher for each statement if they are well-written and well thought out demonstrations of experience. Narratives give the hiring officials the foundation for the interview, so it is imperative they provide a good perspective of your expertise.
Narrative statements need to be from your experiences and cannot be made up statements, for ethical reasons. You will need to be able to defend your statements in an interview and possibly answer them in even more detail during the interview.
